Office Online files can be directly created, viewed and edited within Microsoft Edge through it’s official browser extension. All of this can be done without going to office.com.
To download and install it, open Windows Store and search for Office Online.
Click on Get to begin download and installation.
Once installed, click the dots icon in Edge and Office Online extension will be visible.
Before using it, a default storage location would need to be specified. It can either be OneDrive or OneDrive For Business. Click Sign in to begin using Office Online.
Once successfully signed in, the extension will display a list of recently used documents.
To open any existing document, click Open. The source path can either be directly from OneDrive or after uploading to it.
To create a new document, click on New. It will display the document type to be created – Word Online, Excel Online and Powerpoint Online, OneNote Online and Sway.
This is a handy extension to have for Edge as it avoids going to Office Online page whenever documents are to be accessed or created.
