Documents created in Google Docs are by default saved in the .gdoc format. Technically, they don’t exist as documents at all, but are saved online in Google Drive as such. You can’t directly copy them offline and open them in Microsoft Word.
So here is how you can convert them to Microsoft Word format (.docx):
Convert a single Google Docs document to Microsoft Word:
For a single Google Document, you can directly convert and save it as a .docx file. For this, open it in Google Docs and click on File > Download > Microsoft Word (.docx).
It will be first converted to Word format and then downloaded.
Convert multiple Google Docs documents:
For many documents in the. gdoc format, such an option would be time-consuming. Thankfully, there is a very simple way to bulk convert them to .docx and download them.
Open Google Drive and filter all these Google Docs documents. Then select them all and right-click to choose Download.
These will then be first automatically converted to .docx, zipped in a folder and finally downloaded.
When this zipped folder is extracted locally, all these documents will be listed in the .docx format and can be opened and edited in Microsoft Word.
All done.
