Exporting your data using Telegram Desktop
You can export your data using Telegram Desktop. It is a 2-step process wherein first you select the data to be exported and then approve the data export request from the mobile device.
This example uses Telegram Desktop for Windows 10.
Here is how:
Create export request
Open Telegram Desktop and click the burger icon from top-right. Choose Settings.
Select Advanced.
Then, scroll down to the end and click on Export Telegram Data.
From the Export Your Data selection screen, choose what you want to export.
Then click the Export button.
You will see a pop-up confirming the export request. Telegram, for security reasons, will send this notification to all your devices.
Verify export request
The export request does not start instantly and there is a gap of about 24 hours before you can download your exported data.
Also, approving this request from a mobile device on which you use Telegram is a must for the request to be processed or you would have to request the export again after 24 hours from the same PC.
Once you confirm the export request, there will be an Accepted status below the export message which you had received on your logged-in mobile device.
Export data
You can then download the exported data to your PC after the gap.
Select as needed and let the export begin.
Once downloaded, the exported data will be available in the Telegram Desktop > DataExport_(date) folder. Images and videos shared during chats will be available under the individual contact names and not directly in the exported data folder.
To view these, open the export_results file from the exported data folder and click on Chats.
The chats will be listed for each of the contacts.
All done.
