YouTube‘s new Stable Volume feature aims to smooth out jarring sound changes in videos for a more consistent listening experience.
Available to both YouTube free and Premium users, it automatically reduces volume fluctuations, acting like an audio compressor. However, it’s only applied to select videos, excluding music content where dynamic range is crucial.
While ideal for content like podcasts and interviews, it may negatively impact videos with intentional dynamic range, such as movie trailers. Users can toggle the feature on/off per video, but there’s no global setting.
Stable volume is available via the YouTube app for Android and iOS. It can also be accessed while watching YouTube in a web browser.
Here is how to toggle it:
For YouTube Web:
Play a video and click on the gear icon. If supported, the option will be on by default.

You can toggle it if needed.
On YouTube app for Android and iOS:
Tap on the video and then the gear icon.

Then tap on Additional settings.

You will find the Stable volume option enabled by default. Toggle it as needed.

All done. Happy viewing.
